About the Founder
Charlotte M. Thornton is founder of the CHEBEL Companies, a vertically integrated next generation energy and infrastructure provider focused on 21st century refinery science. She is passionate about fielding the vanguard of Solar & Hydrogen technology defined to effect the 3rd generation of Exploration & Production technology for the Oil & Gas Industry, one that is truly Beyond Petroleum. CHEBEL is currently focused on the launch of a subsidiary company, Solar Fuels Chile, S.A. based on proprietary Coal-To-Liquids fuels technology with no C02 Emissions.
Previously, she has served as the marketing & research director to the chief tunnel engineer for the Defense Nuclear Agency and as the deputy assistant to the chairman and founder of SVS R&D Systems (now Boeing SVS). In these positions, she managed military and NASA contracts primarily related to magnetic levitation technology. She conceived and organized workshops, conferences, and US aerospace & engineering consortia for creating and bidding complex systems engineering programs.
Ms. Thornton is driven by the fact that our standard of living is defined by access to lowest cost transportation, electricity, and water, aka infrastructure. We all have equal access to the sun´s abundant energy, but not in scaled, usable forms. How to deliver up the sun´s energy as the solution to 21st century energy and infrastructure needs is her passion.
Ms. Thornton has most recently been a visiting scholar at Stanford University´s Civil & Environmental Engineering Collaboratory for Research on Global Projects (CRGP). She has studied engineering at both The Colorado School of Mines and Stanford University. While at the later, she was enabled by NASA Ames Research Center to manage the simulation of her own network and next generation mass transport design in NASA´s Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS). This next generation system, now branded as LINC - Levitated Inter-National Causeway®, has been suggested to be the systainable highway of the future by a certain U.S. governmental agency. The exercise proved out the NASA VMS - the world´s largest dynamic flight simulator - to be effective as a design think tool, and thus able to iterate and rapid prototype muliti-disciplinary users´ inputs for a large scale design problem.
Ms. Thornton was born in Calgary, Alberta, grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and tends to explore natural beauty wherever mountains can be found. She has two formal degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, a B.A. in Humanities that reflects a penchant for chemistry and political science, and an M.A. in Art History of which its visual lessons from throughout the history of civilization serve her daily as a plumbline . √
One only re-invents the wheel or allows history to repeat itself out of ignorance of civilization´s greatest achievements and worst moments. Global Warming, Climate Change, and today´s fast past Geo-economic Dynamic represents mankind on the brink of grotesque failure, or brilliant overcoming for the sake of all. CHEBEL has been established because the sun´s energy lies at the heart of a brilliant overcoming, one we are certain is being overlooked, and grossly untapped simply because powers are saying, "You can´t build a Hyrdogen Infrastructure." At CHEBEL, we believe nothing could be further from the truth!
